Has anyone told you to promote your career with a blog? It makes sense that green young people haven't yet learned what should be kept as private, internal company business. So, companies are adopting policies that lay it out clearly. Employees are "discouraged from publicly discussing work-related matters" confidential or not. Still, the Society for Human Resources Management claims that only 8 % of HR departments have blogging policies. And, reports of cool, maverick bloggers who snitch about work antics only to have their blogs turned into books and movies are encouraging others to do the same. Source: New York Times, Anna Bahney. OVER 80%. Does anyone have a soruce for this? Despite innumerable coffees and networking events NO job opening has come my way. Those that have came through recruiters, job postings and companies pursuing me based on posted resumes.Honestly, I think this “blame the worker” mentality of “you need to network into jobs” is a bunch of hooey, to distract from the fact that jobs can be found only when companies decide to invest in growth and thus need to search externally. Until that happens, enjoy your coffee.

Networking is a waste of time if you do it the way most books tell you to if you’re looking for a job during a depression. when 31 million people are all ‘networking’ the concept dies quickly. Instead you need to network with the newly departed. That’s a guerrilla concept. Go Google “networking with the newly departed” and read some of those articles.
